What is Botox?
Botox cosmetic is a medication used to treat unwanted wrinkles. Botox is injected into your facial muscles underneath the skin and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles Typical areas treated with Botox are forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown lines. Botox works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles which results in a smoother and overall refreshed appearance.
How long does Botox last?
Botox is not permanent. Results last from 3-4 months. Individual results may vary. It is important to maintain your Botox to keep the same appearance.
Does Botox hurt?
Botox is injected using a tiny insulin syringe. Most patients say on a pain level it’s mild to none and feels like a pinch.
How many units of Botox will I need?
Each individual will require a different dose. This will be determined by your practitioner in your consultation.
What can I expect after Botox?
Right after your treatment you may experience some local redness, and possible bruising. After 30 minuets most patients do not have any signs of injections and redness has subsided. Results begin to show a few days after treatment and takes full effect between 10-14 days. It is important to schedule a 2 week follow up appointment with your practitioner to assess everything looks great.
Other common side effects after Botox are
-Headaches (this is a temporary side effect)
Who cannot have Botox?
You must be the age of 18 years or older.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not be having this treatment.
If you have any neuromuscular disorders speak to your family doctor before having Botox.
If you are currently sick and taking antibiotics, you cannot have injections until you complete the course of your medication.
